The Maîtrise de Nimy
Founded in 1943 under the direction of Raoul Godfroid, the Maîtrise de Nimy was an artistic movement aimed at elevating ceramics to the rank of art.
Louis Waem was part of this group of artists, alongside Fernande Massart, Georges Destrebecq, René Lemaigre, Pierre Monnaie, André Hupet, Irène Zacq, and Geneviève Noé.
The group achieved international renown through exhibitions in New York, Amsterdam, Cairo, Milan, and Lisbon, as well as the visit of Rainier III, Sovereign Prince of Monaco, to Mons in 1947. They also won first prize at the Milan Triennale in 1948.
The group dissolved after the final closure of the Nimy factory in 1950.
