This is an Empire-style service createdby Lemaire Décorateur in Limoges.
Limoges porcelain is a traditional industrial porcelain production, attested in the French city of Limoges and its surrounding region.
It originated between 1765 and 1770 with the discovery of kaolin near Limoges, an essential material for the production of this hard, translucent ceramic.
Along with Sèvres porcelain, it is one of the two main porcelain productions in France, and the only one to originate from a true production area, organized around the city of Limoges, in Haute-Vienne,
represented by several companies still in operation, some of which are centuries old.
Since 2017, the "Limoges" designation of origin has benefited from the recognition and protection of a designation of origin in the form of a geographical indication. However, since a decision of the Limoges Commercial Court in 1962, the name "Limoges" has been reserved for porcelain made and decorated in Limoges.
