The Ogoni inhabit the coastal regions of Nigeria, near the mouth of the Cross River, south of the Igbo territory and west of the Ibibio. Their sculptures, although different depending on the village, are best known for their articulated jaw masks, often adorned with pointed teeth. Traditionally, these masks were worn during funeral ceremonies, as well as during festivities marking planting and harvesting periods. Even today, they are used to welcome distinguished guests. Furthermore, karikpo celebrations, combining acrobatics and music played on the kere karikpo drum, gave rise to the presentation of numerous zoomorphic masks. Piece on a base.
