The work seduces by the finesse of its washes and the subtly rendered atmosphere of the oriental sunset. "Louis-Amable Crapelet (1822–1867), a student of Jean-Baptiste Corot and Durand-Brager, was one of the French watercolorists most sensitive to the Orient in the mid-19th century. He traveled to Egypt between 1852 and 1854, bringing back numerous sketches and watercolor studies, where he was able to combine the rigor of the landscape taken from life with a poetic vision of the Orient. His compositions are characterized by great attention to atmospheric light, vibrant skies and subtle color gradations, which are fully apparent in this watercolor. Camels, minarets and palm groves constitute a recurring vocabulary in his work, which can be found in comparable pieces." Invoice on request.* Shipping costs on estimate
