17th Century Marquetry Cabinet
Cabinet in marquetry and shell decorated with numerous gilded bronzes. The upper part dates from the 17th century and has three drawers on each side. The door in the center is decorated with a bronze representing "Hercules and the Centaur" and hides 4 drawers. Above is a walnut gallery topped with bronze (one is missing at the back on the right side) which was made in the 19th century.
The lower part, also made in the 19th century, has five drawers in the belt, two of which are false, and rests on four twisted columns on the front and four half-columns on the back. All the columns are in walnut. The whole rests on a base.
This cabinet has three keys, including the one for the central door. It is in good condition.
It was restored at the end of the 19th century. It may come from the Austro-Hungarian Empire or Northern Italy.
