Dating: Late 18th century Origin: France Carved in wood and covered with old gilding, this dove spreads its wings in an attitude of movement and light. Symbol of the Holy Spirit, it probably once adorned an altarpiece, a tabernacle or a liturgical decoration, participating in the staging of the divine presence. The expressive treatment of the feathers, the power of the form and the gilding worn by time give this piece a particular spiritual intensity, between sacred radiance and human fragility.
