Elegant work from Indochina, late 19th and early 20th century. Superb circular box in dark rosewood, richly decorated with polychrome mother-of-pearl inlays. The lid features a central floral composition chiseled in mother-of-pearl, framed by an inlaid hexagonal frieze. The side walls are decorated with bucolic scenes with perched birds and flowering branches. The mother-of-pearl, finely engraved and enhanced with iridescent reflections, gives a precious shine to the contrast of the dark wood. This type of work, of Indochinese origin, illustrates the know-how of Vietnamese and Cambodian workshops of the late 19th century, colonial period. Very good condition.
