"Brass Sponge Ball On Cast Iron Base, Rare Model - 20th Century"
Tripod sponge ball, brass sphere mounted on a magnificent sculpted cast iron base, Art Nouveau style, 20th century, circa 1920. This object is original without any reassembly, it comes from a large Parisian brasserie. Filled with water, it was used to house and rinse the sponge of the waiters to wipe the tables between two services, very common in the beautiful brasseries from the Belle Époque. After the interwar period, the rise of running water at all stations, stainless steel sinks etc. got the better of these objects, the sponge spheres were no longer used and left the terraces. The domestic antecedent dates from the 17th and 18th centuries but only the goldsmith's sphere placed on a piece of furniture, a table or other. This popular object will be wonderful for a meal, an aperitif; filled with ice cubes with its bottle of champagne.
