Oval, chiseled gold reliquary with a bail, containing in the center a relic of the True Cross (Ex Ligno SS. Crucis DNJC), presented in the form of a cross.
Description
It is surrounded by several other relics of saints, identified by handwritten phylacteries in Latin, among which:
• Ex ligno Crucis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi (True Cross)
• Relics of the Passion of D.N.J.C
Presentation richly decorated with gilded paperolles, purple silk background and gilded metal rays.
The reverse is closed with silk threads and a red ecclesiastical wax seal (cracked but original), guaranteeing the authenticity of the relics.
Origin: Italy or Rome, monastic work.
Period: 18th century.
Dimensions: 6.5 × 4.8 cm .
Condition:
good condition, normal wear, slightly tarnished glass, cracked but intact seal.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art.
The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
