14pc Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Japanese Cocktail Set Decor Water Lilies Lotus
Solid Silver ART NOUVEAU Cocktail Service complete with its tray, its 12 Glasses and its Shaker, for a total of 14 Pieces decorated with Water Lilies. The bottom of the circular Tray is lined with a wooden background. Each piece has the mention Sterling for title (.925), the French control hallmark called "swan" and the Signature "KH Kobe" for the glasses and the tray, and the Signature "ARTHUR & BOND Yokohama" for the Shaker. Arthur & Bond was an English company based in Yokohama, Japan during the Meiji period, renowned for selling luxury items (in different specialties: Goldsmithing, hammered and inlaid chased lacquered metal, embroidery, cloisonné ...) thus highlighting its role as a supplier of high-end Japanese craftsmanship to a Western clientele. The company expanded beyond Yokohama, opening a second branch in Kobe and a boutique in London and then in the United States through GW SHELDON & Co, thus strengthening its international presence. The company's success came to an abrupt end in 1923 with the Great Kantō Earthquake which devastated Yokohama, causing significant financial losses for Arthur & Bond.
