"Montmartre By Raymond Besse"
A private house in Montmartre in pre-war Paris by Raymond Besse. Born in Niort in 1899, he exhibited views of Paris and its inner suburbs at the Salon des Indépendants from 1924 onwards, in the suite of Maurice Utrillo. Our painting, signed lower left twice, once with a dedication to "Monsieur Brejeau, yours faithfully," must have been painted in the 1920s. It is framed in a molded wooden frame painted white, of fairly rudimentary manufacture. Without this frame, it measures 33x41 cm. A coin is visible on the back of the painting.
