Rare German padlock in hand-forged iron, dating from the 18th century, with a cylindrical body decorated with four deep ornamental grooves. Dimensions: 5.5 cm wide by 8 cm high (10 cm with key inserted). The original key features a reverse-threaded spiral shaft that activates the internal spring-loaded locking mechanism.
The system works through a clever spiral-thread action that engages or releases the latch. The oval grip of the key is pierced with an elegant volute design.
Handcrafted work, probably of German or Central Alpine origin (Tyrol, Bavaria, South Tyrol). Attractive antique patina, fully functional.
