Raku Sculpture By Roger Capron (1922-2006)
Polychrome glazed ceramic sculpture called -Raku modeled representing a juggler. Unique piece.
Roger Capron is one of these Parisian artists, trained at the School of Applied Arts, who settled in Vallauris where he arrived in 1946. He first created a very important tile factory, which employed up to one hundred and twenty people, producing sets as famous as the decor of the Cannes maritime station (recently dismantled!). His earthenware tiles, then earthenware or stoneware from 1969, with joyful animal decorations, are very famous but have not overshadowed more contemporary and more abstract research. This factory closed in 1982 and Roger Capron, as well as his wife Jacotte, adopted another technique, that of raku. Drawing on their Mediterranean culture and their innate humor, they devoted themselves to the joyful reconstruction of a learned and happy world.
