Pair Of Large Arts & Craft Door Handles, Gibbons In Wolverhampton
Monumental brass (?) door handles in the purest Arts & Craft style, made by the Gibbons firm based in Wolverhampton, England.
Founded in 1750 as a continuation of the initial locksmith workshop established by Thomas Gibbons in 1670, the Gibbons firm manufactured locks and keys, then diversified its production to include architectural pieces and metal furniture. Supplier to the homes of royalty and the aristocracy as well as institutions such as Parliament, recommended by illustrious architects, the quality of its work earned it international recognition at the turn of the 20th century.
Copper finish, one of the characteristics of the firm's production, original.
Stamped on the reverse "Gibbons W'Hampton". c. 1890.
Very good condition - copper tone very slightly more pronounced on one.
