GIEN – Large circular earthenware dish with Italian Renaissance decoration. Elegant circular earthenware dish with a midnight blue background, adorned with a rich decoration inspired by the Italian Renaissance: grotesques, chimeras and finely sculpted handles are brilliantly displayed around a central cartouche depicting a putto surmounted by a marquis' crown. The rim is highlighted by a repeating motif in black and gold, adding a touch of majesty. Perfect condition. Smooth, shiny enamel, without any apparent defects. Uniform texture, without roughness or bubbles. The finesse of the line, the vibrant palette and the quality of the decoration testify to the expertise of the Gien workshops, masters in the art of “grand feu” firing, guaranteeing depth and vivacity of colors. Two discreet openings at the back allow a wire to pass through, offering the possibility of hanging the piece for a refined wall presentation. Small restoration on the back near the cord passage, likely done during the drilling process. The hole does not go through the dish at all, nor does it compromise its integrity. It is nearly invisible (see photo with arrow). Diameter: 46 cm (18.11 inches). Signature on the reverse: castle with three towers and the words “GIEN” in capitals, placing the object in 1938.
