"Regency Tripod Fireplace Screen - Small Dot Tapestry, Adjustable - English, Circa 1820"
English Fire Screen, circa 1820 – Regency / Early Victorian periodA refined solid mahogany and mahogany veneer fireplace screen with a tripod base, with deep grain and a warm patina, typical of early 19th-century English taste. Its finely carved structure frames a small-point tapestry, under glass, illustrating a lively pastoral scene of ducks and a pond of water — exquisitely detailed needlepoint. Designed to conceal the chimney flue out of season and to protect against drafts, it combines utility and elegance, embodying Georgian charm while heralding Victorian splendor. Good overall condition.
Note: Minor loss of veneer at the back of the base, restoration to the central shaft, and some light signs of wear consistent with age, visible in the photos.
Dimensions: 143 cm high (56.3 inches), 34 cm diameter tripod base (13.4 inches). Embroidery under glass: 35.5 cm x 35.5 cm (14 inches).
