"Antique 22.2 Cm Chalice In 950/1000 Sterling Silver With Vermeil, Gothic Style, With Paten"
A masterpiece of 1st grade 950/1000 French silver. Antique French chalice, dating from the 1850s-1880s, large (22.2 cm) with paten, in the Gothic Revival style. Solid silver gilt. Produced by the French master silversmith DVB. This richly detailed Gothic Revival chalice is a thing of great beauty. Its base is decorated with three medallions: a cross, a flaming heart, and an anchor, all within a magnificent design of acorns, grapes, and leaves. On top is the silver and gilt paten, bearing two hallmarks: the Minerva hallmark for 1st grade 950/1000 silver and the second hallmark of the French silversmith Demarquet. The cup is made up of two parts. The gilt cup is surrounded by a second layer of openwork silver, giving it greater detail and depth. The silver-gilt cup bears only one hallmark: the Minerva hallmark for 950/1000 silver in the first degree. The second layer This is an unmarked, but open, silver layer, decorated with a beautiful design of acorns, vines, and leaves. The rest of the chalice is composed of three parts: the central silver knob and the lower silver part. Both are connected to an inner base plate. The latter, unmarked, is always silver. The base bears the silver hallmark DVB.
