Object description :

"Ritual Bronze Bracelet – Ban Chiang Culture, Thailand/laos, Circa 500–300 Bc Ad"

An impressive bronze bangle from the Ban Chiang culture of prehistoric Northeast Thailand or Laos, dating to approximately the 5th–3rd century BCE. The thick circular hoop is surmounted by four large conical bosses arranged symmetrically in opposing pairs. The central crossbar connecting them is finely decorated with a continuous band of spiral motifs, while the bosses themselves are incised with concentric rings — a decorative language that echoes the visual vocabulary of neighboring Đông Sơn art from northern Vietnam.

This bold and sculptural form is characteristic of high-status bronze ornaments found in Ban Chiang burial contexts. Worn as ritual adornment, such objects reflect the metallurgical sophistication and symbolic aesthetics of early Southeast Asian societies.
