Elegant Regency period wall console table in finely carved natural wood.

This refined piece, typical of the first half of the 18th century, powerfully embodies the stylistic transition between the classical rigor of Louis XIV and the emerging lightness of rocaille under Louis XV.

The richly openwork apron features a symmetrical decoration centered on a large radiating shell, framed by foliage and scrolled volutes, which continues along the sides of the console table, in a typically Regency ornamental style.

The overall effect is punctuated by a play of controlled curves and counter-curves, giving the piece great formal liveliness.

The base distinguishes this console table by its exceptional craftsmanship and unique iconography. The two side uprights, in the form of an inverted console, are adorned with fantastical dragon-headed or bat-headed chimeras, carved in high relief, each surmounted by a large scrolled leaf.

The expressive treatment of these mythological figures, which turn their heads towards the center, their gaping mouths and finely chiseled details (fangs, nostrils, rimmed eyes), bears witness to great Parisian know-how.

Foliage scrolls and falling shells adorn the two legs, which meet at the bottom with a fan-shaped openwork brace, again centered on a large stylized shell, as a decorative echo to that of the upper apron.

The entire sculpture is executed in natural oak, a characteristic feature of fine Regency furniture.

It is topped with a beautiful royal red marble, curved on all sides, cut with a groove and double cavetto, matching the sinuous shape of the apron.

Regency period work with fine, high-quality carvings.
