Object description :

"Mahogany Tripod Pedestal Table Attributed To Adam Weisweiler"
An elegant tripod pedestal table in mahogany and gilt bronze.

The Carrara white marble top is encircled by a fluted gilt bronze molding.

The molding opens at the front with a drawer framed by a beaded and chased gilt bronze frieze. Inside, it reveals three inkwell compartments and a leather-covered top tooled in gilt, centered with a beautiful gilt-tooled foliate rosette.

A sliding top reveals a storage compartment.

The uprights, decorated with a fluted rectangle framed by a beaded frieze, extend into three feet joined at the bottom by a concave triangular stretcher, surmounted by a smaller triangle of the same shape. Both are encircled by a fluted gilt bronze molding, similar to the upper section. A beautiful gilt bronze floral rosette sits at the center.

This very distinctive base is unique to Adam Weisweiler. It is assembled using a system of dowels, tenons, and mortises with threaded rods and lag screws. This is characteristic of the construction methods used by this great cabinetmaker.

It also features three distinctive concave feet, each decorated on its sides with a fluted rectangle and beaded frieze, a motif also found on the upper section, and terminating in a very wide sabot with a stylized foliage design.

A very similar base is shown in Kjellberg, p. 914, "Louis XVI gueridon by Adam Weisweiler."

A very fine Louis XVI period piece attributed to Adam Weisweiler.
