"Memento Mori In Deer Bone"
Memento Mori: Plaque in deer bone carved with two skulls superimposed in bas-relief or the two sides of the same skull. Stepped marble base. This formula of medieval Christianity expresses the vanity of earthly life and induces an ethic of detachment, of asceticism. In Ancient Rome, when the Roman general returning from his triumphant campaign parades through the streets of Rome, a slave stands at his side and whispers these words continuously in his ear: "Memento Mori".
