"Marine Telescope, 97cm, 18th Century"
Large marine telescope, probably English, datable to the 18th century. The body is made of ten-sided mahogany, the telescope is therefore decagonal. The decagonal shape is less common than the octagonal shape commonly found on 18th century English telescopes. The telescope is constructed of mahogany and brass. The original optics consist of an erecting eyepiece and an objective lens. The instrument gives a nice sharp image for various viewing distances. The objective clasp/slide is missing otherwise good original and working condition. The telescope measures 97cm closed, and approximately 110-113cm extended
