Bronze mask with brown patina. Circa 1920-30. Its original box indicates "made by OKUNI Teizo. The bronze is not signed. Very good condition. Born in Osaka in 1890. He graduated as a sculptor in 1916 (Tokyo School of Fine Arts) and began exhibiting his works the same year in official exhibitions. His talent was recognized and Teizo Okuni was appointed judge of the Teiten exhibition in 1922. He moved to the Kansai region after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 - His training is in the European academic style. The notion of realistic portraiture is a European influence. This type of portraiture did not exist before the Meiji era. An illustrated note on the artist will be given to the buyer. Weight 1kg.
