"Rosewood Veneer Box With Latticework And Diamond Point Decoration, Early 18th Century "
Small rectangular box in rosewood veneer, decorated on the lid with a geometric pattern of crosses and squares on the ponite forming diamond points. This refined frieze decoration is characteristic of the early 18th century, particularly during the Regency and the first years of the reign of Louis XV. This background play is found among great Parisian cabinetmakers such as BVRB, Doirat, Criaerd, Migeon, etc. The box is topped with an iron handle mounted on two original rosettes. It retains a sober and elegant line. It is fitted with an original iron lock, functional, with its old key and its refined lock entry, also in iron cut into a medallion. The interior is lined with a pale blue moiré fabric, edged with a gold braid, probably original, in good condition with some stains of use. This type of box was intended for the storage of papers, jewelry or small precious objects. The box is in a very good state of conservation: it has undergone old restorations located on the veneer, and a careful resumption of the varnish with traditional polishing.
