"Sèvres Porcelain Plate, France, C.1785, Hand Painted Garden Flowers, Basketweave Border"
Rare original Sèvres porcelain plate, c.1785,
featuring beautifully hand-painted bouquets of garden flowers in vibrant enamel
colors. The plate’s crisply modelled basketweave (“corbeille”) border and
harmonious composition reflect the exceptional standards of Sèvres during the
Louis XVI period. On the reverse, the Sèvres factory mark authenticates this
plate as an original work of the late 18th century. A small hole to the back
was intentionally made for wall display—an elegant tradition for Sèvres plates
in refined interiors. Such
pieces were created for royal or aristocratic service and are highly regarded
by collectors worldwide.
Condition: Moderate gilt wear to the rim from age and
use. Three small areas of the border have been expertly restored. Otherwise,
the plate is in very good antique condition, with sharp moulding, excellent
painting, and no structural cracks.
Dimensions: Diameter 24 cm, height 3 cm.
