Object description :

"Pendule Au Dromadaire"
A fine " Pendule Au Dromadaire " Empire clock, signed J... Cellier à Paris, bell striking movement with outside count wheel and silk suspension, the drum mounted within a tasselled drapery covering the body of the camel, surmounted by a stand with crescent moon encircling a star, the camel mounted on a plinth base with a tree stump and with martial and crescent moon mounts, on toupie feet.
Probably destined for the Turkish market, due to the crescent moon on top of the hump, which was a symbol of the Ottoman Empire.
The author, Cellier, was registered as active in Rue du Bourg l'Abbè in 1806 by the Horological Foundation.
The present model can be seen in " French Bronze Clocks " by Elke Niehuser at page 239.
Au dromadaire clocks are particularly rare and not many are known.
