Italian ceremonial armchair, more precisely Roman, dating from the mid-18th century, crafted from intricately carved wood and gilded with fine gold leaf. It was reupholstered in the 20th century with an elegant yellow silk damask fabric.
The structure is in sound general condition, with visible signs of wear to the gilding, particularly at the extremities of the armrests. The absence of gilding on certain rear portions is original to the period: such pieces were typically positioned flush against the walls of aristocratic salons, and gilding was economized on areas not in view.
A few wormholes are present, attesting to the age of the piece, yet its construction remains robust and stable.
