- Openwork mahogany armchair, attributed to Jacob Frères, circa 1800.
- This openwork armchair features pear-shaped front legs and saber-shaped rear legs. It features a plain apron with a convex front panel and protruding blocks. The armrests are supported by tapered, fluted columns resting on square bases with moldings at the top and bottom. The armrests are straight and carved with a rounded upper edge that curls into volutes at the top. They connect to the backrest via a concave line. The open-backed backrest features an openwork panel depicting an Athenian vase. The vase has a narrow central foot with a fluted body flanked by two scrollwork motifs. The Athenian woman’s vase is a solid, widely flared form whose upper edge is highlighted by a molding with volute-shaped ends.
- This armchair stands out for the quality of the mahogany used, its harmonious, graceful forms, and a clear mastery of line. A comparable armchair is listed in the collections of the Mobilier National (GMT 1711, Jacob Frères, delivered in 1802 for the Butard hunting lodge in Rambouillet) as well as in several publications (see bibliography and last photo).
