"Japanese Katana Sword, Attributed To Kongobei, With Nbthk Certificate - Meio Era (1492-1501). "
Samurai Katana. FUSHI - KASHIRA in iron suite originally inlaid with copper interlacing, the fushi simulating basketwork (significant wear). TSUKA in wood covered with ray skin, braided with black lacquered leather. MENUKIS in chiseled and gilded copper. TSUBA sumikiri-kaku-gata in iron openwork with geometric patterns. SAYA in brown lacquer. HABAKI in silver engraved with oblique lines. Straight blade, regular hamon, straight and well marked, the tang pierced once, unsigned. Sold with the stand, its silk case for transport and its NBTHK certificate. NBTHK also known as Nihon Bijutsu Touken Hozon Kyokai (the Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), is one of the oldest organizations for evaluating Japanese swords in modern Japan. Dimensions: 116 x 10 X 10 cm. Blade length: 70.3 cm. Curvature (sori): 2 cm. Weight: 700 g. Notes: This work is classified as Jyo Saku among the works attributed to Mumei (Kongobei). The name Kongobei generally refers to Mori (Moritaka) of Chikuzen Province. A distinctive feature of Moritaka blades is that the Nakago has a "Sotoba" (stupa) shape at the end.
