Antique Russian Work, Silver Filigree & Enamel Painted Goldsmith's Box Or Casket
Artist: Orfèvre à Identifier
Exceptional goldsmith's work for this small high quality casket or precious box made of silver filigree with very elaborate motifs of foliage scrolls, cabochons, fleurons, arabesques and beaded lines.
* Each corner is embellished with a generous prominent cabochon decorated with scrolls punctuated with small silver pearls The lid is adorned with a sumptuous miniature depicting a figure sailing in a boat along a shore at sunset.
Painting on silver or porcelain (the granite texture of the enamel on the reverse suggests that it is a painting on a silver plate formed into a cabochon) presented in a frame with motifs of sprouting flowers, encircled by a beaded line forming the lid; each ‘corner’ is decorated with a triangular stone cabochon set in a closed setting, tiger's eye.
Note the absence of any apparent hallmarks (the object is nonetheless made of silver).
The quality, one might even say the ‘sumptuousness’ of the object is obvious and there is no doubt that this must be the work of a great silversmith despite the fact that this object seems to have escaped hallmarking.
*Very good condition * however there is a small scratch on the enamel, barely visible, surrounded by a white oval on the last zoom photo.
Gross weight: 176.11 g
