The House of Piel Frères The company Piel Frères was born in the middle of the 19th century on rue Meslay in Paris. The House is recognized and esteemed for its production of "Fantasy and Artistic Jewelry for Fashion and Couture". Their jewelry, made of non-precious materials, such as gilded copper, silver, gilded silver or rhinestones, is characterized by a very beautiful quality of manufacture and an extraordinary creative spirit.
The house also innovates in the use of new materials, notably by replacing ivory with celluloid, one of the first plastic materials created. The house draws on the talent of sculptor Gabriel Stalin for the design of enameled jewelry and belt buckles, which are the source of its success. At the end of the 19th century, Piel Frères jewelry is fully in line with the Art Nouveau movement and appeals to the imagination in harmonious compositions where flora and fauna come to life, while we find in their feminine figures the spirit of Alphonse Mucha.
Consecrated to the eyes of all at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900 by obtaining the Grand Prix for its costume jewelry, the work of the House can be admired in the greatest museums in the world, including the British Museum. (Source Maurice Auction).
