Oblong Fubako box made of wood covered with lacquer and gilding. The main decorative motif is flying cranes. The appearance of a crane (Tsuru) in Japan means good news, the crane is a symbol of longevity (according to legend, it lives 1,000 years), but also of wisdom, fidelity, knowledge and the experience it brings during its distant travels. It also symbolizes love and marital fidelity, as this species is monogamous and mates for life (crane symbols often adorn Japanese weddings).
