"Louis XVI Period Chest Of Drawers In Satin And Amaranth Veneer, Late 18th Century"
Louis XVI period chest of drawers in satin and amaranth veneer, late 18th century Elegant Louis XVI period chest of drawers, resting on an oak and softwood frame, and topped with a later breccia violet marble top, of very fine quality. The purplish and gray shades of this marble blend harmoniously with the warm tones of the furniture, particularly the amaranth. The furniture opens with three drawers on the front, including a lower first drawer (belt drawer). Each drawer is mounted in oak, with traditional joints. The front is veneered in satin forming three panels framed by blackened and light wood fillets, themselves encircled by an amaranth frame. The rounded front uprights are decorated with faux fluting in green stained wood and sycamore, an elegant decorative fantasy that is also found on the side panels, where the frames of the satin veneers are highlighted with the same contrasting woods. The chest of drawers rests on four tapered legs, veneered with rosewood, and finished with period gilt bronze sabots. The gilt bronze ornamentation includes beautiful falls, keyholes and sabots. The bronze pull handles are later, they were probably replaced for aesthetic reasons. The locks are also later. This chest of drawers has some usual restorations: small repairs to the veneer, stripping and re-varnishing with a buffer in the tradition, allowing to recover all the depth and richness of the original woods. It is a very beautiful Louis XVI period chest of drawers, with refined veneer and luminous tones, representative of Parisian furniture of the end of the 18th century.
