"Large Mirror With Glazing Beads And Pediment In The 17th Century Style, Napoleon III Period. "
Large 17th-century style mirror with glazing beads and pediment, Napoleon III period. Mirror with glazing beads in blackened wood, made during the Second Empire, in a style inspired by 17th-century French and Flemish productions, particularly tinsel mirrors. The rectangular frame is decorated with stylized foliage, scrolls, and mascarons, in varnished embossed brass applied to the wood. It is topped with a scalloped pediment, adorned with a luxuriant vegetal decoration in embossed brass applied to a mirrored background. The central, chamfered glass is surrounded by four glazing beads, in an arrangement inherited from 17th-century mirrors. The technique of varnished embossed brass applied to blackened wood directly echoes 17th-century Flemish tinsel mirrors, produced notably in the former Low Countries (Antwerp, Bruges). It reinforces the link between this Napoleon III creation and its historical sources, while preserving the specificities of its era. Dimensions: Height: 156 cm Width: 88 cm Condition: Good overall condition. Complete decorations, stable and patinated varnish. Old mirrors slightly pitted, consistent with age. Set ready to hang.
