"Asian Painted Carved Head Early 1900s"
Early 20th century Lacquered Carved Head mounted on a plexiglass base 3 cm. high with the neck truncated for grafting to the body by a pin. Despite widespread color falls in the Lacquer, this antique carved head, this face kept its expressiveness, its soul, intact. The missing ears were probably brought back as can be deduced from the imprints and nails present; the eyes are painted with dark, thick lines while on the forehead are four dark dots arranged in a pattern that may have symbolic or ritual significance. The provenance of this face is vaguely oriental and in our opinion dates from the early decades of the 1900s.
