"Original Templar Silver Plate Probably Of A Grand Master,"sigillum Militum Xpisti" "
Original Templar silver plate probably of a Grand Master, made from a hammered plate with a twisted edge. The Seal impressed on the edge determines the illustrious provenance: "SIGILLUM MILITUM XPISTI" datable from the late 13th to the early 14th century. The importance of this extremely rare find consists not only in its uniqueness, but also in the preciousness of the material. In the 13th century, silver was worth much more than it is now, about a tenth of gold. It can be assumed that this exceptional artifact was in the possession of a Grand Master, probably manufactured in the 13th century, when the wealth of the Order had become immense and the leaders of the Holy Order partly flaunted the economic power achieved. Object that will be published in the text 'The Templars in Sicily' published by Terza Esperide. Provenance ex Prof. Cirafici Collection of Palermo. Diam. cm. 21 gr. 284
