" Portrait Of Giulia Fattori. Oil On Panel, Painted By The Macchiaiolo Master Around 1884."
Macchiaiolo portrait, oil on panel, depicting Giulia Fattori Marinelli, executed around 1884, approximately 4-5 years before the famous painting 'Giulia Fattori with Fan' of 1889. The painting bears the elegant handwriting 'Portrait of Giulia Fattori' on the back. The exceptional pictorial quality expressed in the young woman's face, with expert brushstrokes typical of a refined Macchiaiolo, the familiar subject portrayed, the vigorous background, the inscription on the back, as well as the mahogany support, much more expensive than poplar and non-deformable, therefore from a family collection, lend a more than plausible attribution to the hand of the stepfather, who portrayed his stepdaughter in this panel, as a young girl and about four years later, as a young woman, seated with a fan in her hand. There is only one Macchiaiolo artist who can express this magical and evocative energy: Giovanni Fattori.
