An Indonesian Fantasy Carved Lion
An Indonesian fantasy animal carved from a single solid exotic wood with traces of polychrome and gilding, it depicts a kind of lion with sharp teeth and claws in a menacing manner. On the back the long tail serves as a handle for the lid of a compartment carved into the back. Of great decorative effect it probably has Indonesian origins and judging by the oxidation of the pigments, dates from the 1800s.
