"19th Century Asian Sculpture Of Fantasy Lion Topped By Deity"
19th Century Asian Fantasy animal figure with deity carved from a single solid exotic wood with traces of polychrome, depicts the figure of a fantasy lion, a reclining guardian lion with sharp teeth and claws, with a menacing appearance. On its back it has the graft of a stylized tail, while on its front shoulders is set the figure of a seated deity in prayer, a Buddha. Also on the front shoulders are two rectangular cutouts, perhaps for missing wings. To great decorative effect, this ancient fantasy sculpture has Asian origins, probably Indonesian, and, judging by the oxidation of the pigments, dates to the 19th century.
