Rectangular Birmingham 1849 Silver Vinaigrette
Rectangular Birmingham 1849 silver vinaigrette with mixtilinear edges and embossed workmanship on the lid and bottom with an intertwining of racemes. On the lid, within a shield, are the initials C A P. On the edge are geometric engravings. Inside is a perforated grid engraved with plant motifs. A ring welded onto the short side allows it to be used as a pendant. The vinaigrette bears the marks of the lion passant for 925 thousandths silver; the anchor relating to the Assay Office of the city of Birmingham; the head of the reigning monarch for duty free; the letter dating it to the year 1849 and finally the silversmith's mark with the initials GU.
The vinaigrette is in good condition apart from a slight dent on the back.
