BLADE: It is a tanto blade, in Hira Zukuri shape(= flat) without any forging defects. Two small oxidation spots that the polishing has respected, 8cm from the tip on the Omote face. The temper is in Sugu ha, it is made of very shiny Nie, the temper at the tip is a Ko maru boshi. The hada is in very tight ko itame, (a kind of "nashi ji") All these elements strongly evoke a work in the style of the early works of Hizen Tada Yoshi (although one can also evoke for example certain works of the Owari Seki school).
The certain attribution of a blade to a school or even to a specific swordsmith being an ultra specialized discipline in Japan, I will be careful not to give more than an indication.
Nakago unsigned, yasuri mei in katte sagari, 2 mekugi ana, Nagasa = 29.5 cm, moto haba = 29 mm, moto kasane 6 mm
The habaki is in red copper.
TSUBA : iron, sukashi, with inlays of branches and leaves of Aoï in copper and sentoku.
FUCHI in copper or shakudo enhanced with gold, finely chiseled with a salmon preparing to jump a waterfall and branches and plum blossoms. The salmon going up the waterfall is obviously a symbol of courage and tenacity, and the plum tree is a classic emblem of longevity.
The kashira is in striated black horn, it is in suite with the kurigata and the kojiri of the scabbard. Plum blossom shaped menukis in a circle, blue green silk braiding.
SCABBARD: it is complete, black lacquered (probably restored later) with kojiri and kurigata in striated black horn.
KOZUKA: in copper and sentoku, with decoration of hens, chicks and winnowing trays. The blade of the kozuka is signed, but as is often the case, it is an apocryphal signature.
The whole object is pleasant, of indisputable origin and in very good blade condition.
