"Jar For Cherries In Brandy, Paris 1920-1940, Solid Silver And Crystal, Ravinet-denfert"
Very beautiful jar for serving cherries in brandy or morello cherry liqueur at the table. This dessert or pousse-café has somewhat disappeared from our eating habits but was a huge success at dinners in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The cherries were flooded with strong alcohol or kirsch mixed with a good dose of refined sugar. They could be kept for several years. Served at the end of the meal, they reminded guests of all the good things about the summer. Our jar is in perfect condition and the master goldsmith's mark tells us that it was manufactured and marketed by the Parisian house Ravinet Denfert during the interwar period.
