" Royal Vienna Tea Caddy, Mythological Scenes, C.1880"
This outstanding porcelain tea caddy was produced by
the Royal Vienna manufactory around 1880. Decorated with rich cobalt glaze and
gilt embellishments, it features two finely painted mythological scenes:
"Jupiter and Callisto" and "Rinaldo and Armida," derived
from 18th-century works by François Boucher and Angelica Kauffman.
The miniature scenes are rendered with exquisite detail, set within
ornate raised gold cartouches. Gilded floral sprays and raised slip-beading
decorate the sides and Marked underneath with the blue beehive mark. A highly
decorative object, this caddy offers both visual refinement and collectible
appeal. Suitable for lovers of classical revival porcelain and 19th-century
mythological decoration.
Comparable to mid-19th century Royal Vienna panels in the collections of
the MAK Vienna and the British Museum.
Condition: excellent - paint, enamel, and gilding are
completely intact, with only minor wear on the gilding on the ribs. A faint
firing crack to the base, barely visible and formed during kiln firing. No
damage or repair.
Size: height 14.7 cm, width 8.5 cm, depth 5 cm, neck
diameter 2.3 cm, weight 309 grams.
