"Sophie Combres Large Tubular Polychrome Ceramic Vase With Orange And Blue Background Decorated With Dancers "
Large tubular vase in orange polychrome ceramic on a blue background, decorated with dancers in movement. Series "Dance and nets" Signed Nicolas Sophie Dimensions: Height: 32 cm Diameter: 15 cm Sophie COMBRES (1960-2006) Daughter of Aline and Loul Combres, Sophie Combres was a child cradled by traditions and the cult of the Earth. After the years spent in her father's workshop, she studied at the Beaux-Arts in Nîmes. In 1980, she spent several months in La Borne in the workshop of Jean Linard. Her travels in Africa revealed to her potter's secrets on polished earth. Since 1990, she has also expressed herself through painting by dressing her ovoid vases. The originality of her artistic approach is to exploit the entire surface to impose the pictorial decoration with force and life. The graphic expression is perfectly adapted to the shape of her vases or pots. By turning the piece like a film reel, the drawn story begins to move, just like in a movie. The decor is revealed with grace and lightness, which demonstrates the artist's talent, both through the mastery of the potter's gesture and the painter's creativity. Nothing is left to chance: worked with engobes, the subtly chosen polychrome colors complete the choreography of this '3D painting'.
