Portrait Of A Young Woman - Oil On Canvas, 18th Century Frame - Cévennes, End Of The Louis XVI Period
Portrait of a young woman
from the Louis XVI period
Oil on canvas
Not relined, original stretcher
18th century frame
-----
67 x 50 cm [stretcher]
78 x 64 cm [frame]
-----
A handwritten indication on the frame specifies the name of the subject: Priscille de Massane, 1770
We find a Priscille de Massane in Alès, born in 1769, married to François Régis Ramel in 1791 and died in 1814.
If the frame is indeed the original one, we would therefore be dealing with a Cévennes portrait from the end of the Louis XVI period.
-----
The young girl, very smiling, wears a light red dress with a flowered bodice and decorated with a green ribbon bow with pink facings. The mantilla on her shoulders matches her diaphanous headdress of black lace. For all jewelry, a gold stud in her ear.
-----
Good general condition. Two small restorations.
