Noah And King David, Flanders, Early 16th Century.

Rare wooden and round carved representations of Noah, holding the Ark, and King David, holding his lyre. Noah, a biblical character, is the 10th and last pre-diluvian patriarch in the traditions of the Abrahamic religions. An important figure for Judaism and Christianity, and considered a prophet by Islam (Nouh). David, an important figure of the Boble, is the 3rd king of the unified Monarchy of Israel and Judah, following Saul and Eshbaal. He is the principal author of the Psalms, hence the presence here of the large Hebrew lyre with 10 strings, the Kinnor. Beautiful presence, gilding and a large part of the original polychromy. Flanders, late 15th - early 16th c. 34.5 x 11 each.
