Pierced at the top with two suction holes (Ø 2.5 cm). H of the cap 14.5 cm. Brass visor, width 5.5 cm. Its outer curve has a very obtuse protruding angle in the middle, it is bordered by a circle of white metal called nickel silver, placed astride, 7 mm wide on each folded face, and fixed at each end by a rivet. Inner lining in black waxed sheepskin. Brass neck cover circled similarly to the visor, decorated with 3 nickel silver nails on each side. Tin headband, stamped all around with two protruding threads (width 4 mm). H on the sides 3.6 cm. In the middle it has a rounded point 10.3 cm high which joins the crest and is stopped by an iron screw with a half-spherical head. The two ends of the headband are riveted to the bomb, near the chinstraps. On the middle of the headband is fixed by two hardened iron screws whose head is on the inside, a stamped brass attribute, representing a grenade surrounded by palms (H of this ornament 7.8 cm; maximum width 7.2 cm). Chinstraps composed of a strong leather chin strap covered with a decreasing series of brass rings in the shape of an intertwined figure 8. Length of the chin strap 20 cm; length of the part covered with rings 14.5 cm. Width of the 1st link: 4.6 cm. Width of the bottom one: 2.2 cm. In the middle of each chin strap, a flat brass hook is intended to hold the rings. The right chin strap ends with a brass curb chain and hook, the left chin strap with a simple hook. Round stamped iron rosette (diameter 5.5 cm) with a protruding outer molding and struck in the center with a radiant sun. This rosette is connected to the rings of the chin strap by two brass rings and fixed to the bomb by means of a five-pointed brass star (diameter 2.6 cm) to the back of which is soldered a threaded rod passing through the bomb. Crest formed by two fins and a mask, in brass. Each fin has a curvilinear triangle, the base of which connects to the bomb by means of a scalloped edge, 1.3 to 1.7 cm, decorated with small gadroons. The fins are stamped in relief with a frame of acanthus leaves and in the middle of a laurel branch and in its center of laurel branches. Each fin is attached to the bomb by means of two iron screws with half-spherical heads. Maximum height of the fins 13.2 cm. The mask serves to join the two fins from the front to which it is welded by its edges which are decorated with threads. It ends squarely at the top and at the bottom by a cul-de-lamp which engages under the headband and which passes through the same screw. (Width of the mask at the top 3.5 cm; in the middle 2.2 cm; at the bottom 4 cm). It is fixed at the bottom by the screw at the top of the headband. Independently of the welding with the mask, the two fins are joined together by a partition in welded tinplate. Caterpillar in scarlet horsehair mounted on a steel wire. It extends beyond the crest by about 5 cm (from the 1858 regulation, the mane will be cut to about 6 cm). Inner headdress in black waxed sheepskin cut into ten wolf teeth each trimmed with a metal eyelet. Total height of the helmet 36 cm.
