" Rosewood Marquetry Secretary, Louis XV / Louis XVI Transition Style - Early 20th Century"
This charming Transition-style writing desk is distinguished by its refinement and aesthetic harmony. Its belt drawer, decorated with a rosewood veneer, reveals a delicate marquetry of foliage and flowers in light wood, framed by a stained wood fillet. This drawer is equipped with a functional lock with a gilt bronze entry and key. Just below, the drop-leaf, also equipped with its original lock, displays a sumptuous marquetry featuring musical instruments, sheet music, and quivers, surrounded by flowers and enhanced with a ribbon. Once opened, it reveals an interior dressed in burgundy leather with a gilt vignette, complemented by five drawers with lentil knobs and a large niche, providing optimal organization. The lower part of the writing desk has a double door decorated with motifs of bouquets delicately arranged in vases, in a decorative spirit in perfect continuity with the whole. It includes a lock, gilt bronze entries, and a key, guaranteeing both aesthetics and functionality. Inside, a shelf optimizes storage space. The canted uprights, made of alternating rosewood and stained wood, are enhanced by gilded bronze floral falls. The piece of furniture rests on small arched legs, also trimmed with bronze, giving it a graceful and balanced look. The sides are adorned with rosewood veneer panels, arranged in butterfly wings and enhanced with a light wood floral decoration. Crowning this exceptional piece, an elegant white-veined gray marble with canted sides completes its sophisticated look. This secretary will seduce with its harmonious proportions, its ingenious storage spaces and its timeless elegance. ************* Period: Early 20th century Very good condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop.
