By The Light Of The Moon By Eutrope Bouret
Artist: Eutrope Bouret
Eutrope Bouret (1833–1906)
Eutrope Bouret was a Parisian sculptor whose works perfectly embody the romantic charm of his time.
A student of the sculptor Louis-Charles-Hippolyte Buhot, he received an academic education.
Bouret found his inspiration in mythology, graceful female figures and popular characters, to whom he lent a gentle elegance and attention to detail.
Among his most popular subjects are Pierrot in the Moonlight and Psyche at the Tribunal of Venus, which earned him an award at the 1885 Salon.
Specializing in decorative bronzes, Bouret also created sculptures in marble, plaster and terracotta. His favorite themes were mythology, allegorical figures and popular or historical figures (Pierrot, Diana, Joan of Arc).
His style is characterized by great finesse of detail and romantic elegance, typical of 19th-century salon sculpture. Some of his works have stood the test of time, such as his bust of the writer Alexis Bouvier, which still adorns a tomb in Père-Lachaise. Pierrot Au clair d ela lune is his best-known sculpture.
