Artist: Norbert Goeuneutte
Very large charcoal attributed to Norbert Goeneutte 1854-1894
A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Norbert Goeneutte is a regular at Parisian party venues. There he met many people such as Edouard Manet, Emile Zola, Edgard Degas, Gustave Caillebotte, Eva Gonzalès and Renoir who even had him pose in his most famous paintings such as the Bal du Moulins de la Galette and the Swing.
He exhibited 5 paintings at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris before leaving for Venice with Van Gogh's famous doctor, Paul Gachet.
The portrait we present is very close to the many elegant women he meets in Parisian cafes and concert halls.
She wears a large feathered hat which gives her this flirtatious and chic profile.
